From September 18 to October 06, the premiere of G. Verdi’s opera “Don Carlos” staged by Scottish director David McVicar took place on the stage of the Teatro Real Real in Madrid, in which Dmitry Ulyanov performed the title role of King Phillip II on September 29 and October 04. The orchestra was conducted by Diego Garcia Rodriguez. Dmitry's partners on stage were such wonderful artists as Alfred Kim (Don Carlos), Juan Jesus Rodriguez (Rodrigo), Roberta Monteña (Elizabeth Valois), Ketevan Kemoklidze (Princess Eboli), as well as Mika Cares (The Grand Inquisitor).
Since the beginning of the new season, this is the second production of the opera “Don Carlos”, in which Dmitry takes part (on September 6, 9 and 12, 2019, performances with Dmitry in the role of the Grand Inquisitor took place on the stage of the Vienna State Opera).
PRESS:
“I really liked Philip II performed by Dmitry Ulyanov. The Russian bass, a son of the Slavic tradition (as we critics often repeat), has no problem fitting into the role of an authoritarian ruler, a role that suits him perfectly. He stunningly performed one of Verdi’s most beautiful bass arias, “Ella giammai m’amò,” and received thunderous applause for his performance.”
